How Do You Increase Computer RAM Without Buying? (Explained)

Spread the love

Is there less free RAM on your machine now? You may efficiently increase the amount of RAM without purchasing another RAM stick! Yes, something known as “virtual RAM” essentially boosts the RAM on your computer.

In this post, we’ll go into more detail on how to increase and decrease the RAM on your computer. By following this step-by-step approach, you may eventually enjoy more RAM and a machine that runs smoothly. The computer or laptop running speed of applications, software fast or slow, is partly determined by the device’s RAM.

If you’re a mobile device user, you’ve probably heard the names of phone parts like the processor, video card, etc. And RAM is no exception. So what is RAM, and what does it mean?

What is RAM and How it works

RAM stands for Random Access Memory – one of the most important factors besides the processor. RAM is the machine’s temporary memory that helps store current information so that the CPU can access and process it.

RAM cannot store data when the power supply is lost. If the device loses power and turns off, the data on RAM will be erased.

When we open an application on a smartphone or a tablet, the software’s data will be transferred from the hard drive and stored in RAM, while the CPU will retrieve and retrieve data from RAM to display in the response user action again.

What is the difference between phone RAM and laptop RAM?

They have precisely the same function, but due to the nature of the device, these two types of RAM will have some differences.

Firstly, the phone RAM is designed with small size and low power consumption to match smartphones’ mobile nature and battery usage.

Second, the RAM on the phone is attached directly to the processor chip. Therefore, you cannot easily upgrade or replace it like desktops and laptops.

Finally, the phone RAM will be shared by the processor and the graphics processor without the RAM dedicated to graphics processing.

Enough of RAM

More or less, RAM depends on the user’s needs. For needs that only meet everyday tasks such as surfing the web, watching movies or even playing some light games, 2 GB to 3 GB RAM is more than enough.

As for the group of customers with higher requirements, such as manipulating heavy applications or playing games with medium graphics or higher, at least 4 GB RAM or more will be more reasonable.

How to increase RAM for computers and laptops without buying

  1. Restart the computer to increase the computer RAM
  2. Check your computer’s RAM usage
  3. Uninstall or disable software that “sucks” RAM
  4. Remove malware to increase computer RAM
  5. Install more RAM for computers and laptops
  6. Set virtual RAM for PC

Restart the computer to increase the computer RAM

Restarting your computer will also clear memory, reset all running programs, and clean up software running in the background.

This hidden software can cause your computer’s slowness because they “eat up” all your RAM. Regular computer restarts will be beneficial if you want to increase the amount of RAM on your desktop or laptop.

Check your computer’s RAM usage.

Regularly checking RAM usage is also one of the optimal ways to free up RAM and increase Gb for your computer. Currently, Windows has provided several tools to display RAM usage to users.

For example, to check RAM usage, you need to open Task Manager by searching for it in the Start menu bar or using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + Esc. Next, click More details to expand to the total utility if needed. Then, on the Processes tab, click on the Memory item to sort RAM usage from most to least.

If you want more information, switch to the Performance tab. Here you will see a graph of RAM usage over time. Your available RAM is displayed on the chart at the bottom. By looking at it, you can see which programs use the most RAM to make processing choices.

Uninstall or disable software that “sucks” RAM

Many programs start up when you open the computer and are not used often. This situation will make the machine’s RAM drain quickly and waste.

Therefore, disabling or removing them is also an effective way to increase RAM for computers and laptops. To disable these programs so that they do not start at the same time, you can do the following:

Step 1:

Open the Task Manager and select the Startup tab.

Step 2:

Select the application you need to disable and click Disable in the corner of the dialogue box.

Increase RAM by using lightweight applications or online software

How to increase RAM for your computer, this laptop encourages you to try using lighter applications or online software instead of software on your computer.

You should also concentrate more on the applications you are using. Turn off all the software you don’t often use; pinning the browser tabs you use is also a way to save RAM.

Remove malware to increase computer RAM.

Use programs and applications that scan for malware on your computer to remove software or malicious code that can steal resources and “eat up” your available RAM.

Install more RAM for computers and laptops

If you want to solve the problem of RAM completely, you need to upgrade RAM, either by adding a stick of RAM or using a RAM stick with a higher capacity.

This will save you a lot of time monitoring the consumed space or regularly cleaning the memory. The first important thing is to determine the type of RAM your computer or laptop has to install more RAM.

To know precisely, the simplest and easiest way to do it is to download the CPU-Z computer cleaning tool.

Set virtual RAM for PC

Step 1:

Determine Your Installed RAM

  1. Press the Windows key simultaneously.
  2. Next, select “System.”
  3. Next, select “About” from the menu on the left.
  4. Verify how much “Installed RAM” your PC has.

Increase the virtual RAM in step two.

  1. To open the Run window on your computer, press the Windows key + R.
  2. To open System Properties, enter “system.cpl” in the Run box and press Enter.
  3. Select “Advanced” from the tabs menu in the System Properties box.
  4. Select “Settings” under the Performance tab.

  7.
  8. To alter them paged file size, click “Change” under the “Virtual memory” column.
  9. To take charge, uncheck the box next to “Automatically manage paging file size for all drives” in the Virtual Memory window.
  10.
  11. You must now choose the type of storage (Windows disk or SSD drive) to use as paged file resources.
  12.
  13. To customize the page settings more effectively, follow these steps:
  14. Choose the “C:” drive.
  15. Next, select “Custom size.”

After that, adjust the “Initial size” and “Maximum size” as necessary.

NOTE–

  • For each device, there is a general formula to determine both values.
  • Initial Size (MB) equals 1.5 * 1024 (Installed RAM)
  • Size Limit = 3 * 1024 (Installed RAM)
  • Example: The installed RAM in this PC is 8 GB.
  • So. Initial size: 1.5 * 1024 * 8 = 12288
  • The maximum size is 3*1024*8 (24576).
  • Make the computations using the RAM that is available on your device.
  1. Click “Set” to set the restriction in stone.
  1. Click “Yes” if a warning notice appears on your screen.
  2. Click the “OK” one again.
  3. To save the changes, click “Apply” in the Performance Options box and “OK.”
  4. Finally, click “Apply” in the Properties window and “OK.”
  5. You have now successfully expanded your system’s virtual RAM.

I can recommend some RAM for you.
